Who we are

Get involved - make a difference!

Voices for Liberation, formerly Voices in ACTION: Artists against Oppression, was founded in the summer of 2020 in the wake of the murder of George Floyd --and so many others--by police officers in Minnesota.  We wanted to be part of the change.  We assembled a nationwide multiracial coalition to produce our first event, a 12-hour long telethon in support of the NAACP LDF on July 5, 2020.  We raised nearly $15,000.  Knowing that breaking down systemic racism in the US is not a short-term commitment, we committed to  being part of the long-term struggle.

We have produced a few smaller events with huge impacts, one in October 2020 in support of Battle for Democracy Fund, which is working on voter suppression issues as well as building long term grassroots power in Cleveland and Milwaukee.  Another event, we hosted a beautiful inauguration day event the morning of 1/20/21. We raised our voice for our multiracial #democracy with song, art, words and dance from steps, ramps, or metaphorical steps that are meaningful to each performer. Visit http://steps2021.org for more on this  movement.

Stop by our upcoming Dance Festival, "Dancing The Diaspora" on May 22, 2021 @ 7:30PM! A dance festival showcasing African dance from the African diaspora, performed by several incredible dance groups, as well as our beneficiary, Grown Women Dance Collective (GWDC). This fundraiser is to raise money to support GWDC's Pilates Work Training program! Please see our homepage for more details!

We are in the process of creating our formal mission and starting the process of becoming a non-profit foundation so that we can continue our work fundraising to support black-led projects and organizations  working to undo systemic racism and racial violence in the United States.

We believe that every person can contribute in some way, small or large.  Our organization is mad up of diverse volunteers, and we are committed to working together to make an impact. If you would like to support our work by contributing of your time, talents or money, please let us know.
